Dairy driver killed by rack of ice cream
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A dairy delivery man was killed when a rack of ice cream fell on him, crushing his skull, authorities said.
Joseph LaRose, 31, died Tuesday as he unloaded the 230-kilogram (530-pound) metal rack of Nutty Buddies at a supermarket.
LaRose had rolled the rack on to a hydraulic lift at the rear of his truck, police said. A support rim apparently was not in place to hold the rack and it began to roll toward LaRose as he stood on the ground at the back of the truck.
The delivery man struggled to hold back the rack but it fell on him, breaking his right leg and crushing his skull, said police official Steve Cole.
"It was just terrible. I'm still shocked," said fellow employee Wilbur Black. "He was a great guy."
Co-workers said he had been married for 14 months and had an 8-month son.
